Thank you for registering for San Mateo County's Hack SMC 2015 event.  By registering, you are agreeing to the following rules and guidelines:

  • The registration fee is non-refundable, even if you later are unable to participate in the event.
  • Before being allowed to participate you will be required to acknowledge and agree to the Hack-SMC 2015 Terms of Participation.  A copy of this document will be emailed to participants before the event, and a hardcopy will also be available on the day of the event.  The Terms of Participation will address general rules for the event and other legal issues, including some intellectual property-related items. Any participant under the age of 18 will be required to get the signature of a parent or guardian.
  • Participants must do a presentation regarding their final app/software product on the day of the event in order to qualify for receiving one of the prizes for best designed app/software.
  • Participants must be present during the event in order to receive items being given away as door prizes.
  • Decisions about the winning apps/software will be made by a panel of judges, and all decisions are final and are not appealable.
  • The prize amounts listed in event materials, including the event website, are based on current pledges of donations.  The prize amounts may increase, but no prize amounts are guaranteed at any level until final announcements on the day of the event.

Prizes

At the end of the day, one concept, app, or website will be judged by a panel of judges, and the top three entries will receive a cash prize. The current prize levels are expected to be: *

  • 1st prize: $5,000
  • 2nd prize: $2,500
  • 3rd prize: $1,00

In addition, Esri, an international supplier of geographic information system software, will provide a 30-minute introduction to using their web-based GIS technology so that teams can easily enhance their app ideas with spatial information and lend a sense of "where" to their solutions. Esri is sponsoring a special $1000 prize for the best use of their technology in a solution or app.
